Although the official first day of summer isn't until June 21st, everybody knows that this upcoming Memorial Day weekend is the unofficial kick off to the summer season. For those of you who don't live here yet, but are obviously interested because you are reading my Crested Butte Blog - you may not know that Colorado is just as fun in the summer as it is in the winter. Here is the lowdown on summer fun in Crested Butte and Gunnison Valley.Summer Lift Rides
Those same lifts that take you to the top of the Crested Butte Mountain for skiing in the Winter work just as well in the summer. Only now, the Silver Queen or the Red Lady Express is your transportation to a picnic or a hiking experience. So gather the troops - friends or family, pack a basket of sandwiches and a blanket, lay back, enjoy the breathtaking views and get started on that summer tan.
Mountain B
ikingMountain Biking is a sport of endurance, balance, bike handling skills and self reliance. It can be a tame activity, but also very intense if you want it to be. The great thing about Crested Butte is that it has a whole network of trails - fit for beginners and extremists. With the perfect terrain for the sport, mountain biking is a popular past time of Crested Butte. For those of you who want to hone your skills and become a real Crested Butte-ean, check out Crested Butte Mountain Bike School.
Disc Golf
Some time back in the 60's, the entertaining game of Disc Golf was invented. The ba
sics of the game involves individual players throwing a flying disc into a basket or a target. Just like golf, the object is to go through an 18 hole course, landing the disc in the basket in the fewest number of throws of the disc. Crested Butte just happens to boast Colorado's most scenic Disc Golf course around. Ten-Three @ CB is so well known that it was even named one of the top 23 courses in America. If you've just moved to the Gunnison Valley area, I'm excited for you. If you're still thinking about looking at Crested Butte Real Estate, the summertime is a great time to come see for yourself what this community is about. You'll come to find that when a community values activity and the outdoors as much as we do, it makes for a natural high - even when you're not on top of Crested Butte mountain.
