Starting the New Year off Right in Crested Butte Colorado

The New Year is upon us, and you all know what that means…

New Year's Resolutions!

Whether you love them, hate them, or love to hate them, they are always a good way to start the year with the intention of being better and living better.

For me, moving to Crested Butte, Colorado, is taking a step in the direction of living a better life. When you are surrounded by nature, people who value community and organization, and a full range of indoor and outdoor activities, it is easy to make improvements in your life.

After a little research, I gathered a list of the most popular New Year's Resolutions. See below to find out how living in Crested Butte makes it a lot easier to start your New Year off right.

1. Get Fit
With two gyms in Crested Butte (Elk Ave Fitness and The Gym), multiple yoga studios (such as Yoga for the Peaceful! and Bikram's Yoga College of India), and more outdoor activities than you know what to do with (hiking, mountain biking, skiing, snowboarding, rock climbing), it's almost impossible to live here and not get enthralled in the active lifestyle.

2. Eat Healthier
Enjoy the beauty of the Farmers' Markets in both Crested Butte and nearby Gunnison Colorado for food and produce that comes right from the local land, promoting sustainable agriculture and building the community. When the Crested Butte Farmers' Market is not in season, there are still plenty of options for healthy eating including organic grocery stores (Mountain Earth Whole Foods) and restaurants that use only organic food (EastSide Bistro).

3. Learn Something New
There are so many activities available in Crested Butte, living here is comparable to being back in school and having a laundry list of clubs to join. Skiing, hiking, and biking are the big three and there are plenty of clubs, classes and competitions, allowing anyone to start completely inexperienced and slowly hone their skills. If you tend to be more of a creative mind, then the Studio Art School & Pottery Place is where you'll be spending your time. They teach everything from painting and drawing to sculpture and photography.

4. Do Good
There is no shortage of humanitarians living in Crested Butte. Whether or not you move to Crested Butte with volunteer experience, you can't help but be inspired by the spirit of the community. No issue seems to be too big or too small to tackle - from complex global issues (Red Lady Coalition) to enhancing arts and culture in the local schools (Join the West Elk Soo Bahk Do Moo Duk Kwan).

5. Enjoy Life More
You must admit, there is something pretty enticing about living in a place that most people visit to go on vacation and have fun. When you live here, you witness fun and enjoyment on a regular basis. Why restrict all the fun to the visitors? Crested Butte homeowners often use the lodge, the slopes and the spas on a regular basis. "Staycation" luxuries aside, Crested Butte is simply a beautiful and natural piece of Colorado Real Estate. It's a lot easier to smile on your way to work when you pass the breathtaking site of Mount Crested Butte on the way there.

It may sound like it's all a little too far-fetched, but moving to a Crested Butte Colorado home is not nearly as "day-dreamy" as it sounds. There are homes available in a variety of price ranges, from luxurious villas like this Villas Summit Unit (100 Snowmass Road, Crested Butte), to single family homes like this brand new Buckhorn Ranch home (227 White Stallion Circle, Crested Butte).

I am an experienced Crested Butte Colorado Realtor, and am very experienced in helping residents relocate to Colorado. How amazing would it be to start the new year in a new Crested Butte home? I'll let you work on your resolutions first. Then you can give me a call when you're ready to find out more about life in Crested Butte.

Burn off the Turkey in Crested Butte Colorado

Thanksgiving is upon us in Crested Butte Colorado! I'm sure all of you associate Thanksgiving with indulgence - spice-rubbed turkey, gooey marshmallow sweet potatoes, cheesy casseroles, whipped-cream topped pumpkin pie. That's okay, Crested Butte has all that too. The thing that makes Crested Butte residents a little different is that we go skiing afterward to burn it all off...

The 10th Annual Crested Butte Nordic Thanksgiving Camp is not to be missed!

Whether you are beginning, intermediate, or advanced - there are clinics for everyone at this informative, thrill-seeking, turkey-burning cross country ski clinic. The instructors alone are enough to convince you that this activity is a must - three time Olympian Ingrid Butts, Masters Nordic World Champion Murray Banks, and PSIA Nordic and Telemark examiner Ross Matlock.

There's more than skiing on the schedule, a silent auction/gourmet dinner, wax clinic, active isolated stretching class, and movie night featuring the film "Fire on the Mountain" that tells the story of the America's 10th Mountain Division, are all part of the itinerary. The Saturday night pasta dinner will be followed by Duane Vandenbusche speaking on the history of skiing in Gunnison County. Don't worry. This is not one of those speakers that cause the eyes to roll back - Vandenbusche is quite the story teller and will come armed with slides and anecdotes about how skiing took root in Gunnison Valley's backyard.

Each clinic will be held at elevation in excess of 8,800 feet. Competitive racers or casual ski enthusiasts will definitely get a head start on a successful season from this awesome camp.

If you are looking to move to a community that values an active lifestyle, then Crested Butte Colorado Real Estate is the ideal place to live. Skiing, snowboarding, mountain biking, hiking, fly fishing, golfing, dog sledding - you name it, we do it! When surrounded by your Crested Butte neighbors, who are constantly keeping active, living a healthy lifestyle, and are full of energy, it becomes the norm. You can't help but follow suit. It's just another great quality of Crested Butte Living. If this sounds like the kind of place you want to live, the kind of person you want to be - give me a call. I would love to help you find your Crested Butte Dream Home.

A Good Old Fashioned Crested Butte Colorado Halloween

Are you ready for Halloween in Crested Butte Colorado? Living in a mountain town that is full of history is bound to harbor some spooky stories from the past, making for the perfect Halloween ghost story. Here is one of the best that is sure to get you in the Halloween mood…

The Story of the The Haunted Forest Queen Hotel

Back in the times of the early settlers that came to Crested Butte, Colorado there was a lady named Elizabeth. Elizabeth had fallen madly in love with a transient gambler. In an effort to gain his affection, she gave him her entire life's savings - which was only to be used for an all night gambling event.

The transient gambler won big that night, but instead of returning his love and appreciation to Elizabeth, he left town with his winnings, as well as Elizabeth's savings. Soon after he left, she threw herself from the Forest Queen Hotel window into the icy waters of Coal Creek.

The story goes, if you stay in the hotel, you can hear Liz traipsing through the hotel halls - banging around and slamming doors, and keeping hotel residents company late in to the night.

Now to snap you back to reality - The Forest Queen Hotel is actually a great place to stay in Crested Butte Colorado. Located right in the heart of Crested Butte, this historic hotel has all the old world charm that you would expect from a cozy ski town hotel.

Stories like this only add to the character of this old Colorado mining town. Even though it may not be the same town it used to be, it still harbors a lot of its old fashioned charm. Quaint shops, restaurants, and galleries line the streets to create an atmosphere you can't quite find in any other Colorado town. It is often referred to as "The Last Great Colorado Ski Town" and I could not agree more.

If you want to look at some Crested Butte Real Estate, I would love to be your guide. I am a passionate Crested Butte Real Estate agent that can't help but brag about how amazing my town is. With my area knowledge, I can give you the insight about all of the secrets of Crested Butte Colorado. Until we speak, I wish you all a happy and haunted Crested Butte Halloween!

Dive Head First Into Crested Butte Colorado Culture

Skiing and snowboarding is something a lot of us who live here in Crested Butte Colorado often take for granted. For Crested Butte residents, making a trip to the slopes is as everyday an activity as eating breakfast. It's part of the culture here. So it doesn't surprise me at all to see parents encourage their children to learn how to ski as early as possible.

The state of Colorado has found it so important that every child who lives here should have the opportunity to learn the state's signature winter sport, that they offer a special program called the "First Class Program." Sponsored by Colorado Ski Country USA (CSCUSA), the program allows 5th graders who have never experienced skiing or snowboarding the opportunity to receive three free days of skiing. They also offer a 6th grade passport that provides participants with 4 days of skiing or snowboarding for the price of $99.

This 15 year old program has helped more than 200,000 families introduce their kids to the joys of skiing and snowboarding. Crested Butte is, of course, one of the participating resorts to offer this benefit to the youth of Colorado. For more information, visit the Colorado Ski Country USA Website.

If your family recently relocated to Crested Butte, Colorado, this program is ideal to help your children dive right in to Colorado's culture. I am always looking for ways to make new Crested Butte Home Buyers feel welcome. If you are looking into Crested Butte Real Estate, I would love to introduce you to the town, show you some beautiful Crested Butte homes, and help get you acclimated.

- New NASTAR race arena on the Canaan Trail

- 10 new high efficiency tower guns, the result of $40,000 NSAA Grant
